I love the Vine app on my phone, and here’s why: I’ve never been called the most patient person anyone’s ever met. In fact, I don’t believe anyone’s ever even come close to describing me in that fashion. I prefer projects that I can start and complete in one sitting. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m easily distracted or just that I like to see pretty immediate results.

I know some very gifted visual artists who work on pieces of art for months at a time. I feel slightly panicky when I think about allowing a creative project to sit, unfinished, for any extended amount of time. For whatever reason, when I was writing my books, the impatience rarely came into play. I think that’s because I created specific beginning and ending daily goals and considered each one a mini-project. See, I can justify just about anything.

Back to Vine! This app allows users to take snippets of video (no longer than six-seconds total), and then Vine edits them all together and plays them in a loop. You’ll see what I mean when you read on — because my cats created Vine videos! That’s right. They each took a shot at recording some of their favorite things, and Vine did the looping. Here’s how each one turned out:

1. Saffy

Saffy almost exclusively thinks about food. Mealtimes are the highlights of her day, and when she’s finished emptying her own bowl, she wanders the perimeter of the kitchen area and stares at Phoebe and Cosmo while they finish eating, hoping they’ll leave a few scraps behind for her to swoop in and snag. I sometimes picture her like Homer Simpson, with a donut-filled thought-bubble above her head. Mmmm … donuts. Here’s Saffy’s Vine:

2. Cosmo

As much as Saffy is uber-obsessed with stuffing her face, Cosmo is consumed with following my every move during his waking hours. He must know where I am and what I’m doing at all times. And when possible, he looks for every opportunity to plaster himself against me. I love that boy, and totally understand why his Vine looks like it does. That’s right — it’s all about dear old Mom.

3. Phoebe

Phoebe! Phoebe’s not really focused on one specific person or thing. She’s the most active of my cats, and doesn’t spend a lot of time in one place during the day. Like her fuzzy body, her attention span is tiny. One moment she’s in the window watching birds, then almost immediately after that she’s on top of the cat tree, then two minutes later she’s at the water fountain. She moves so quickly that I sometimes don’t even see her. She’s like a ninja, I tell you! Needless to say, I was not surprised with the Vine Phoebe created.

What kinds of things would your cat record on Vine? Tell us in the comments!
